Job offer received!

September 17th, 2007 at 08:13 pm

I got a call this morning shortly after I got into work offering me the position if I was still interested. The gross amount is less than I'm making now, but the net will be comparable.

What it boils down to is, in the long run this will be the better position for me. I will actually be able to start using the degree I earned a few years ago and the potential for advancement is far greater.

Its going to cost me in the beginning. The contract place pays every two weeks and then once it rolls over to the new place then it will be once a month. But once I get on an even keel with them, all should be good.

I'm going to avoid using the credit card as much as possible, though I may charge my bus pass initially since there's no room for it in the budget just yet since I don't know what/when I'll actually be getting paid and I'll need the pass pretty much right away.

My first day of work will be October 1! I am so excited!

    Congrats on the job!!!

It's going to be tough adjusting to getting paid once a month. I had a friend who was paid like that and the poor guy really suffered but then again he wasn't as good with his money unlike many on this blog.

One thing I do remember him saying is that he had to pay more in taxes per paycheck due to getting one big paycheck instead of 2-4 per month. It's just a suggestion but you might want to decrease the amount witheld to help out with your budget.

Hmm that's strange. It was my understanding that taxes were withheld based on the what the projected yearly was going to be not so much on the amount in the check. But I could totally be wrong. For now I'm leaving it at normal and we'll see how it goes. It'll be beginning of the year before I get to that point anyway. Good to know to watch out for though! I did use the calculator at paycheckcity.com to see what my monthly net would be and you'd think they'd factor that in as well.

Congrats - I agree with katwoman that being paid monthly will be quite a change, especially when you start on the first, and their payroll does a month float. That happened to me. I basically waited 2 months for the first paycheck. Ick! That emergency fund will help, though. Big Grin
